High Cost of Drug Store Items

Lately it seems like the most expensive place to buy things is the corner drug store. They have the pharmacy, of course, but they also have different departments within the store with over the counter medications and toiletries, beauty supplies, toys, camera film, groceries, greeting cards and a limited selection of household goods, like paper towels, rubbermaid storage containers, fuses, etc.

But all of these things cost almost twice as much as if you went to a hardware store or Wal Mart to buy them. I’m sure there is a premium to be paid for convenience, but in these tough economic times, places that charge two much for every day items will be losing a lot of business and frankly, it’s their own fault.

Trying Tex Mex

Some of the so-called Mexican restaurants in the area are not authentic Mexican restaurants but are Tex Mex. The people who are really from Mexico know the difference, but I don’t know how to tell. I think the Tex Mex is what they mean when the food is based on certain Mexican dishes but has been adapted to better suit American taste. So I try all the different little Mexican restaurants that open up and see if I like their food. So far, I have one favorite place and only two that I won’t go back to.

Names

Today I had a spam email about baby names and even though I deleted it and went to a different web site, I though the idea of finding out what my name means was interesting. So, from the site called BabyNames.com, this is what I found out about Mindy:

The meaning of the name Mindy is Combination Of Mel And Linda

The origin of the name Mindy is American

Notes: Nickname for Melinda.

When I asked my mom about it, she never said anything about it being a combination of two names or being a nickname. She had told me that she just always liked the name and when she first saw me after being born, the name Mindy came to mind and there was no discussion, or searching for the hidden meaning, or anything. She just thought I looked like a Mindy. So there I am.

Snoozed Through the Tonys

Did you watch the Tonys Awards show last night? I saw a part of it and then fell asleep. I was glad to see that the play “Billy Elliot” won a lot of the awards, but it seemed a little lopsided when there are so many deserving plays and actors this year. I can’t help but think that most of these so-called awards shows are fixed by the good old boy network and the fans are just played for fools when we watch the hype.

The only real excitement in the show was when Bret Michaels ran into some scenery. I mean, WTF? Was he so f*d up that he couldn’t make it across the stage? He laughed it off, but DAMN. What an idiot.

Toss the Diet Drinks

Do you know that drinking zero-calorie diet drinks increases your hunger and cravings? The increased hunger causes increased caloric intake. I read about it online.

If you are getting frustrated with a weight-loss plan but still drinking diet drinks – this might be why your plan is not working out like you thought it would. If you switch to plain water when you are thirsty, this report about diet drinks suggests that you are much better off drinking water than drinking diet drinks.

McCafe

The McDonalds by my house has changed their menu board and they are featuring a new selection of drinks called McCafe. You can get hot or iced coffee and milk for about $2, which is a lot cheaper than getting the same thing at a Starbucks for about $5. I might give it a try, but to be honest, I hardly ever go to McDonalds anymore. The only reason I noticed is because I was riding with a girlfriend and she wanted to stop at McD’s to get her little boy a Happy Meal for his dinner.
